Chapter 7 â Back to the House
I led the way out of the city and Cassa waved at the guards as we left. The girls rode close together and talked while I led the way. Sorn was happy to be on the move again and out of town. The horses seemed happy to be out as well. The day went by uneventfully. We had a couple of breaks for the horses and I flavored everyoneâs water flasks. I had us stop while there was still a few hours before sunset.
I took care of the horse and the girls got the camp set up. When the horses were done and I started the campfire, I said, âI thought weâd stop earlier in the evening and start a little later in the morning so we can exercise and train. I know Iâve been enjoying being pampered by Mabel, but I need to get back to staying in shape.
Leilihi why donât you go work an exercise set with Cassa while I get ready for two of us to train? That way two of us can be training while the third is exercising. Weâll rotate every twenty minutes so we have some variety.â
They both nodded and while Leilihi showed Cassa what to start with I got out the extra bolts and wooden short swords. I set up a target and started practicing with my hand crossbow until Leilihi came over. We took up the wooden short swords and started practicing.
After about twenty minutes I rotated out to do exercises and Cassa joined Leilihi. Once we rotated doing exercises and we switched out to practice shooting our hand crossbows. We kept going until the sun was setting.
Leilihi held out her flask and said, âAle please,â so I made it taste like ale. She took a long drink and then handed it to Cassa who took a long drink.
Cassa said, âWow that wasnât too bad of a workout, but I have a feeling that Iâm going to be sore in the morning.â
Leilihi said, âI think I know what we need. Just wait until you see what Mungus has done with his room!â
âLet me get that for you two, and then Iâm going to see to the horses for a minute.â
I focused on my image with all the changes and cast my spell with my hand up against a tree. The doorway shimmered there, and I stepped to the side, saying, âAfter you ladies. Iâll only be a bit longer.â
Leilihi grabbed Cassa's hand and pulled her through the shimmering doorway. I went to the horses and made sure their pickets were solid and asked Sorn to watch over them. He gave me that feeling of intense watchfulness through our connection. I banked the campfire and brought our packs with me as I walked through the doorway. I put the packs down just inside the doorway. The girls were already soaking in the pool with just their heads poking out. They both had their eyes closed. I quickly undressed and joined them in the pool.
